Early Days of Motherhood

March 4, 2018February 19, 2018 ~ SweetDreamer ~ 1 Comment

Becoming a mother is one of life's greatest gifts, but it's also one of the strangest times in a parent's life. As women, we aren't really well-versed in the job description of a mother. I think that I was most shocked at how much time I needed to devote to an infant, day and night. … Continue reading Early Days of Motherhood

Tips for Cleaning a Car Seat

February 28, 2018February 19, 2018 ~ SweetDreamer ~ Leave a comment

If you're a parent, you've had your fair share of messy blowouts in the car. Well, this winter, my littlest had two episodes of car sickness, and let's just say the car seat was a disaster. Since it's winter, she was in several layers, and it was morning so all that came out was her … Continue reading Tips for Cleaning a Car Seat

When It Hurts, Listen

February 25, 2018February 18, 2018 ~ SweetDreamer ~ Leave a comment

Over the weekend, we had a little bit of a scare with my three-year old, and it has left its mark on me, and I can't shake it off. It all began on Friday, when Ridha came home from school and ran up the stairs to tell me all about her day. I was lying … Continue reading When It Hurts, Listen

Creamy Bistro Linguini

February 21, 2018January 20, 2018 ~ SweetDreamer ~ 2 Comments

I love eating out, and when I eat out, I almost always order pasta because it's one of my absolute favorite dishes. One of my favorite pasta dishes is from Cheesecake Factory, because everything they make is delicious. [This one is extremely high in calories, I think it was named worst dish to order in … Continue reading Creamy Bistro Linguini

A Day Out: Crayola Factory

February 18, 2018February 4, 2018 ~ SweetDreamer ~ Leave a comment

This was our very first visit to Crayola Factory, located just on the border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Everyone knows and loves Crayola products, and who knew that they were made right here on the East Coast. Over the weekend, we visited the Crayola Factory with my cousins, and had a wonderful time. This … Continue reading A Day Out: Crayola Factory

Chicken Florentine / Sautéed Brussel Sprouts

February 14, 2018January 13, 2018 ~ SweetDreamer ~ Leave a comment

So I'm one of those people who has never been brave enough to try brussel sprouts, and this is primarily due to Arthur. [Cartoon TV show, main character despised brussel sprouts]. But now as an adult, I'm finding that these new adult taste buds are enjoying many foods that I dismissed as a child. So here's … Continue reading Chicken Florentine / Sautéed Brussel Sprouts

Our very first DIY Ramadan Deeds Calendar. (Full post link in bio) • • • I wanted to make Ramadan special this year, so I went to Michael’s and crafted this simple DIY calendar for my kids (ages 3 & 1.5) The good deeds inside are simple for toddlers and preschoolers and the visual aid helps the little ones understand Ramadan a bit better. [Total cost was under $20.] • • One pet peeve I have is not giving credit where it’s due. So I would like to thank @zairzabrplay for the entire idea and inspiration, and free printable inserts for this calendar, which she posted in her blog. I would also like to mention the bloggers who inspire me everyday. Wherever I go, I’ll take you with me.. • • Yes, these two are constantly glued to each other. They spend the entire day (and night) within 3 feet of each other. But this isn’t an accurate depiction of their relationship. I don’t know if it’s the age (both 3 and under) or what it is, I don’t have experience with having a sister. But they fight. A lot. It’s the usual stuff. “That’s my toy, she’s touching it, she’s not sharing...” and then of course the elder one will intentionally bother the little one till she screams like a horror movie.. • • Does it get better? And more importantly when?! 😒🤔 At what age did you notice your little ones getting along? Comment below 🙌🏼. • #sisters #siblings #sisterfights #sisterlove #RidhaandRabab #toddlers #preschoolers #sisterfriends #playingtogether #playingnice #gettingalong #motherhood #njblogger #muslimmomblogger #muslimblog #muslimparenting #muslimkids #parenting #pblogger #sweetdreamer
We began our daughter Ridha Zaynab’s preschool when she just turned two and a half. The truth is ever since Ridha turned 2 years old, it became challenging to keep her content with enough to do at home, especially since I had her younger sister to take care of too. Being a stay-at-home-parent, the duties of the home, and coming up with a full day’s worth of activities was getting to be too much for me. Ridha would get bored of the same things and she demanded more. So we ended up choosing daycare at a rather “early” age of 2.5 years...[link in bio for full post]. . At what age did you send your child to daycare/preschool and what influenced your decision? Comment below and let me know! 😊. . #ridhaandrabab #preschool #daycare #school #startingschool #toddler #preschooler #muslimmomblogger #muslimparenting #parenthood #pblogger #muslimkids #newblogpost #njblogger #sweetdreamer
April 3rd I stayed home with my two young children, as a precaution because it was Punish a Muslim day. I was told by several people just to stay home, no need to take the girls out, so I didn't. Truth is I'm used to living in this kind of a precautionary state, I've grown up in an islamophobic country since I can remember, since the day I wore the hijab at 8 years old. I noticed instantly the discomfort my presence made in public settings. Ask any Muslim and you'll hear stories of how we've been spat on, cursed at while driving, told to go back to our country, embarrassed and harassed. It's second nature to us now, has been that way for years. . .
Today I went out to do my groceries with my toddler, since it was relatively safer, today wasn't Punish a Muslim day. But the fear was still in the back of my mind. I kept a low profile, avoided eye contact at the store, quickly did my business, all the while feeling like I committed a crime for being who I am and rushed out of there. When I got to my car, I placed the full shopping cart by the trunk and proceeded to fasten my toddler into her car seat. When I turned around to unload my shopping cart, I noticed that it had driven away straight into a nearby car, and crashed. Great. Just what I had been avoiding the entire time. The man whose car it was approached his car with his cart, and extremely embarrassed I walked over to retrieve my cart, expecting foul words, eye rolls, scoffing or cursing under his breath...basically expecting the worst treatment for my small mistake. I apologized to him, numerous times. And all he said was "You've got your hands full, don't worry about it. Have a great day." .
The relief that follows is overwhelming. We may have experienced the worst of situations, embarrassment, rude comments, abuse & mistreatment, many times in our Muslim day-to-day lives. But we manage to hold onto moments of kindness like these. We still strive to do good, not evil. This is what separates us from those people we are always associated with. And we still see hope in humanity, in this ugly world.
I pray for that man, for Allah to continue to bless his kind soul. #punishmuslimsday #loveamuslimday #kindness
“Before kids, I always had this ridiculous idea of what motherhood would be like, but now I know that I knew nothing. Absolutely nothing.”. . . New post: 5 Things I Didn’t Know About Motherhood.
