Winter has arrived! And with it comes harsh weather patterns, stormy nights, early darkness and of course bundling up your little ones with hats, mittens, boots and packing them up to take them out because they’ve had enough cabin fever. When one has toddlers, one does not stay at home for too long, as they will drive you insane. This winter, I brainstormed quite a lot to come up with exciting, enriching activities for us to do as a family [preferably indoors] that would keep my toddlers entertained. We are so, so blessed to be near enough lots of fantastic attractions in the tri-state area, so we chose to visit the Adventure Aquarium for the first time, and loved it!
When I had heard there’s a special Mermaid exhibit running in November over at the Adventure Aquarium of Camden, I was so excited. Of course, we ended up going the final day of this exhibit and didn’t actually get to see a mermaid swimming in a tank full of sea animals, as the wait time was 1.5 hours and I knew my girls would never wait that long.
We did, however, thoroughly enjoy viewing all the sea creatures, including the huge hippos! and my daughters loved it. They even offered mermaid style face painting starting at just $10, so naturally Ridha was beaming with joy- as this is as close to wearing make up that she will ever get before she turns 20. [fingers crossed]
The aquarium isn’t so huge that it’s overwhelming, and it can be done in a couple of hours. There’s lots to explore with little ones, and very kid-friendly/stroller-friendly. They have several seasonal exhibits throughout the year, like Christmas and New Year’s special events too. And the area that it’s located is quite beautiful, overlooking the water and a view of the city.
I was pleasantly surprised that we all enjoyed the aquarium, even my youngest. For a nice indoor activity this winter in central NJ, i’d definitely visit the Adventure Aquarium with my family again.
