I’ve never cooked ground chicken before. (Hard to believe, right!) And I am attempting to cook a bit leaner in the house on account of all of us need to be a bit health-conscious after a long summer full of stuffing our faces with all kinds of fatty goodness. So I decided on cooking lean chicken burger patties, and absolutely loved the end result so wanted to share with you!
*This recipe is basically chicken burger patties with an indian twist. It contains most of the ingredients we use on a daily basis to cook indian cuisine.
Ingredients
1 lb ground chicken
1-2 TBSP Tandoori Chicken Masala (I use Shaan brand)
1/2 half onion, finely chopped
Coriander, finely chopped
Salt, Pepper
1-2 TBSP Yogurt
1 TBSP Ginger Garlic paste
1 TBSP Besan (Gram flour)
1 Egg
1-2 TBSP Bread crumbs
Directions:
- After washing and prepping the ground chicken, add all of the above ingredients and let it marinate if possible for 30 minutes. Form into round patties.
- Then lightly fry in oil until golden brown on both sides and chicken is cooked through. I like to let is simmer on med-low for about 10-12 min each side, covered. Sprinkle with lemon juice when finished.
- And you’re done! Assemble with your favorite burger toppings and serve warm.
*You can also bake the burgers at 350F for 5-7 min each side, and then step #2. This will ensure a fully-cooked through burger patty.

This recipe is so simple and a real winner when it comes to a weeknight, simple meal. And my picky daughter Rabab, actually ate it. You can freeze any of the raw marinaded meat and cook burgers later. You can serve this with rice pilaf and veggies or make it into a burger, or whatever way you choose!
